2008 Proposed Allocations One Step At A Time Summer Camp: Provides a two-week summer camp and activities for children with cancer and leukemia. Camp is fully staffed by volunteers. Harper College Educational Foundation Women’s Program: Provides scholarship funds for needy women preparing to return to the work force. Little Sisters of the Poor: Provides residential and nursing care at no cost to the elderly poor. Special Leisure Services Foundation: Sponsors the Northwest Suburban Special Olympics, which provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Palatine Opportunity Center: Not-for profit organization which supports and coordinates community services offered at the Northeast Palatine Community Center and Edgebrook Community Center. Offers education, recreation, medical care, and special services to township residents. Palatine Township Needy Family Fund: Provides help to needy families with rent, utilities, food, or prescriptions. Children Home and Aid Society: Offers child day care, early childhood education, and support for families at risk. Clearbrook Krauss House: Not-for-profit agency creating opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Krauss House is a group home serving adults. Home of the Sparrow: Provides transitional housing and support services for homeless women and children in northern Illinois. Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council: Provides opportunities for growth and development, increases community awareness of available programs and services, and increases access to services for low-income, at-risk older adults. WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger): Provides homes to families who are in need of safe refuge. Provides the support necessary to give them freedom from abuse and poverty. Provides housing, counseling, clothing, food, career services, and the support necessary to reclaim their lives. PADS: Serves individuals and families who are homeless, or at a risk of becoming homeless, with lodging and food. Canine Companions for Independence: Trains service dogs which are provided to people with disabilities. Level one trainers are volunteers. ESL (English as a Second Language) Department at Palatine High School: Scholarship fund for needy students enrolled in ESL who wish to go on to college. Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO): Kirk School provides special education and related services to students from 5-21 years of age with moderate to severe development disabilities, as well as physical, sensory, or behavioral deficits. Palatine Youth Softball: PWC-sponsored girl’s softball team. Provides jerseys with PWC name. |
